Literacy targets can take the fun out of the act of writing through emphasis on presentation. In this workshop pleasure in the creative process is given priority. It is designed specifically to create an environment where participants feel free and enabled to drop in to the natural flow of their imaginations. Attention to the craft of writing can follow. Another side-effect is that people who enjoy writing are naturally more curious and adventurous in their reading. With a little guidance, writing can also serve as a very useful, safe and private witness to the challenges young people face. This practice can become something that is useful to them all through their lives. Marks I make on the world offers an introduction to all of the above as well as being a valuable way to make deeper connections between participants sharing the experience in a gentle, structured, stimulating and immersive environment. It is open to all teenagers, whatever their literacy skills.
'This workshop has opened my eyes to the power of language and what can be done with a diversity of words' (Ellion, aged 13).

JUST WRITE - monthly, self-directed days of writing for those already in the habit. This is for those of us who just need a time and space to commit to the act.
'The main thing I found helpful was committing to a date and a space. I wouldn't have done this writing at home if I hadn't come. Paying a small amount has helped to ramp up my intention. As well as being offered a quiet, pleasant environment, I was motivated also to see if I would meet my kind of people in the social parts of the day, separately, in the kitchen.' (Rebecca Skillman, Feb '19).
Every third Thursday and every third Saturday of the month, from 10am to 4pm.
(Break for August)
Thursday 19th and Saturday 21st September
Thursday 17th and Saturday 20th October
Thursday 21st and Saturday 23rd November
Unguided writing happens in a light, airy room in a house on Tory, Bradford-on-Avon. Any socialising, peer review, weeping, cursing, laughter etc can happen in another part of the building. There is free movement between the two but the writing place is always quiet and undisturbed.
